
“This year’s the year! I’m going to join the gym again and get into it…” We hear this at the beginning of each year, and the story often turns out the same – PAIN (Don’t worry, we’re guilty of it too)!
Despite restrictions having benefited the community by allowing Queenslanders to live safely, the effects of COVID have impacted people’s ability to stay active. However, going too hard too fast can further impact your plans for incorporating more movement back into your routine. It usually takes 4-6 weeks before you’ll notice changes, so, the trick is to be gentle but firm – gentle on yourself but with a firm commitment to your health goals.
Throughout the pandemic, many patients have reported an increase in stiffer joints, headaches, fatigue, postural concerns and sluggish movement – much of which can usually be improved by an adjustment, and brisk walk a few times a week. Regular exercise is also a natural anti-depressant, helping you to feel uplifted and clear-headed to then tackle the task at hand!
It’s okay to have a busy day, or just not feel motivated to move yourself. However, taking the stairs, standing to do some work, and walking around on a business call all collectively help you to get back on track!
